13/07/2022

On 12 July, EPEE held a side event during the 44th Open Ended Working Group (OEWG) of UNEP in Bangkok, Thailand, where UN countries discuss the implementation of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol.

The event focused on  “Accelerating the HFC phase down in Europe – the importance of good modelling” , where the HFC Outlook modelling tool used by EPEE was presented to the participants coming in number from all around the world. This tool is crucial to project the future use of HFCs and other refrigerants in the EU and, significantly, to evaluate the consequences of the HFC phase down on the energy use in heating and cooling. EPEE uses this model to analyse the recent European Commission proposal to revise the EU F-Gas Regulation.

The event sparked a large amount of interest among countries from all over the world. Speakers included:

  • Folker Franz, EPEE Director General
  • James Curlin, Head of OzonAction, Law Division, UNEP
  • Ray Gluckman, Gluckman Consulting
  • Federica Rizzo, EPEE Senior Policy Director
